Comments

Itasca State Park is the jewel of Minnesota’s State Park system. In November, 1965, it was designated a National Natural Landmark. Within it’s borders are the headwaters of the Mississippi River, the former largest red pine in the state, and the Itasca Wilderness SNA.

Birds

Common loon (Gavia immer), bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), scarlet tanager (Piranga olivacea), black-backed woodpecker (Picoides arcticus), black-throated green warbler (Dendroica virens), Blackburnian warbler (Dendroica fusca), northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), alder flycatcher (Empidonax alnorum), and winter wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) are some of the birds found here.
