Hiking Trails

There are no maintained trails, but on the south side a well-worn footpath leads from the kiosk and parking spot through the forest to to a cornfield at the top of the bluff. On the north side there are no footpaths.

Grasses found here not listed below include little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium), prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis), porcupine grass (Stipa spartea), hairy grama (Bouteloua hirsuta var. hirsuta), and sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula var. curtipendula).

In early April American pasqueflower (Pulsatilla patens ssp. multifida) can be found on the south-facing slopes of the prairie. Other plants that can be found on this site, along with those listed below, include prairie turnip (Pediomelum esculentum), American plum (Prunus americana), birdfoot violet (Viola pedata), Jack-in-the-pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum ssp. triphyllum), purple prairie clover (Dalea purpurea var. purpurea), prairie larkspur (Delphinium carolinianum ssp. virescens), bracted spiderwort (Tradescantia bracteata), round-headed bush clover (Lespedeza capitata), and aromatic aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium).
