| Birds | Several bird species with protected status in Minnesota have been seen here: Endangered – Baird’s Sparrow (Ammodramus bairdii) Threatened – Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator), Wilson’s Phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor) Special concern – American White Pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos), Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), Greater Prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus cupido), Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa), Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow (Ammodramus nelsoni), Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), Yellow Rail (Coturnicops noveboracensis) Other birds commonly seen on this site include Northern Harrier (Circus cyaneus), American Kestrel (Falco sparverius), Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis), Wilson’s Snipe (Gallinago delicata), Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris), and in the winter, Common Redpoll (Acanthis flammea). |
