Identification

The hindwing has a large open area of orange. The crescent surrounding the outer hindwing spots is very faint or is missing on all but the bottom two spots. The antennae clubs on males are orange and black.

Similar
Species

A similar species, pearl crescent (Phyciodes tharos), has more prominent black reticulations on the hindwing. There is a prominent crescent surrounding each outer hindwing spot. The antennae clubs on males are all black.
