| Identification | The upper and middle leaves are egg-shaped or oblong and are 2 to 4 times as long as wide. They are closely and evenly toothed. They are dotted with resinous glands. |

Curly-cup gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa var. quasiperennis) has leaves that are untoothed, are remotely sharply small-toothed, or have lower leaves that are irregularly lobed, or pinnatifid. Curly-cup gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa var. serrulata) has narrower upper and middle leaves. They are linear oblong to oblong inversely-lanceshaped, and are 5 to 8 times as long as wide. |
