The body is brownish-gray without a yellow wash. The undertail coverts are rusty red or chestnut brown. The wing tips have bold yellow and white markings.
Total length: 6½″ to 8″
Wingspan: 14½″
The call is a high pitched, rapid, trill, lower in pitch and a slower trill than Cedar Waxwing.
