Location: Lino Lakes, MN

I came upon this bird on the path in a preserve area in Lino Lakes, MN. It was on the ground and at first I thought Grouse, but then I immediately noticed the extremely long beak. It sat for a brief moment, then turned, fanned its tail feathers and flew off. I Googled it as soon as I got home and the Long-billed Curlew is the only bird remotely similar to what I saw. Supposedly rare or non-existent for this area.

Location: Lake Edwards, Nisswa MN.

While taking an evening walk with my son on May 17, 2022, we had this medium to large bird fly by that had a very long beak. I have never seen such a bird here in MN, so when back at our cabin I began to search for long beaked birds and when the Curlew came up, both my son and I said that this was the bird we saw.

I’m only reporting because of the oddity of the sighting and can not say for certain that we saw a curlew, but it certainly looked very much like one. It was dusk, poor lighting though not dark, and we had the briefest of views as it flew right over us.
