This SNA is accessible only by boat. The nearest road approach is Sherburne County Road 3 where it crosses the Elk River. Both sides of the river have dense growth to the river’s edge and appear impassible. Both sides are also fenced and are posted with “No Trespassing” signs. There appears to be an old road, long since overgrown, on the east side of the river that follows the river out of sight and may lead to the site. There is a wire gate across the road with a “No Trespassing” sign. If the road does lead to the sight it will leave the hiker on the wrong side—the east side—of the river. The nearest public water access is a trailer launch on the east shore of Elk Lake at 67th St. SE. The lake is the source of the Elk River about 8 miles southeast of the site. Another nearby public water access is the trailer launch on the Mississippi River at Sauk Rapids City Park. The launch is 1 mile north of County Ditch 3, which leads, if navigable, 8½ miles southeast to the Elk River at a point 0.4 miles north of the SNA. |
