Description

Bicolored armoured money spider is a small dwarf spider. It occurs across the northern two-thirds of the United States and the southern half of Canada.

Males and females are the same size, about 116 (1.5 mm) in length.

The front part of the body (cephalothorax) is brownish-orange, fairly short, and broadly oval. The head region is black and there is a black line that extends back from the head half the length of the thorax. On the male the head region is divided by a furrow into two distinct raised lobes. The front lobe is extended over the jaws (mandibles). It bears the front middle eyes (anterior median eyes, or AME). The rear lobe bears the rear middle eyes (posterior median eyes, or PME). On the female the head region is only slightly humped.

The abdomen is light orangish-yellow, fairly short, and broadly oval. There is a hardened (sclerotinized), distinctly darker plate (scutum) on the upper side of the abdomen on both sexes. On the male it is large, fully as wide as the upperside of the abdomen and stretching three-quarters of the way to the rear. On the female it is much narrower, only half as wide as the upper surface, but it may be just as long.

The legs are medium-length and light orangish-yellow.
