Black-billed Cuckoo...

I came across this Black-billed Cuckoo in June 2020 on a trail that went through an area of mixed woods that contained occasional small meadows and brush areas located in rural Norman County, Mn. Managed to get some nice video of it. I filmed it making some sounds and it also was preening its feathers at times. The first time I heard it make some sounds without seeing it I had no idea what it was and first thought … Is that some weird kind of frog in the brush? When I finally got a look at it I thought … Oh, it’s not a frog it is you Black-billed Cuckoo … What a nice surprise...😊

I had seen Black-billed Cuckoo’s every once in a while in the woodlands along that trail but never got a real good close look at one until this season. Neat bird.

Black-billed Cuckoo...

While out in the woods near a creek in rural Norman co. Mn. I happened to notice a bird flying through the trees landing briefly. It turned out to be a Black-billed Cuckoo. Interesting bird with red around the eye area.

About

Kind of sounded like a frog...I heard a sound coming from behind some dense foliage and thought it sounded like some kind of frog but I wasn't sure. I snuck around to get a glimpse and found it to be a Black-billed Cuckoo preening itself. It was a real windy day, but the dense woodlands seemed to shelter the brunt of it. I wasn't prepared....no wind muff or even external mic, but just went with what I had.

Nature is pretty unpredictable and you can be out just doing some photography and something unexpected shows up that would be more interesting shot in video. I wanted to share the sight and sound of the Black-billed cuckoo as it is something one doesn't see or hear every day.

...Hope you enjoy this.
