Comments

Conditions were abnormally dry in June 2009, making it possible to walk through the cattail marsh without getting wet feet.

Plants

In early- to mid-June golden alexanders and heart-leaved golden alexanders paint the prairie yellow.

Three plant species with protected status in Minnesota are found here:

Threatened – Sullivant’s milkweed (Asclepias sullivantii)

Special concern – deer sedge (Carex hallii), four-flowered yellow loosestrife (Lysimachia quadriflora)

Other plants that can be found on this site, along with those listed below, include alkali plantain (Plantago eriopoda), big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), foxtail barley (Hordeum jubatum ssp. jubatum), Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans), prairie cordgrass (Spartina pectinata), prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis), switch grass (Panicum virgatum var. virgatum), and woolly sedge (Carex pellita).
