About

Prairie junegrass is a native perennial bunchgrass, the panicles are mostly contracted, at least when not in anthesis, each spikelet has two similar florets and each floret bears a fairly large translucent palea, which renders the silver-green-brown variegated coloration of the seedhead. One of the very few members of Aveneae to be native and common in open arid steppe vegetation (e.g., sagebrush steppe) in good ecological condition.
