Scientific and Natural Areas (SNAs)
Scientific and Natural Areas (SNAs) are sites that have been selected to preserve and perpetuate rare species, rare habitats, or other natural features in Minnesota. They are managed and in most cases owned by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. There are currently (3/6/2024) 169 SNAs in the state. All but a handful are open to the public. The newest one is Purrington Prairie SNA, in Cottonwood County. It was designated on December 21, 2023. Many have parking areas, but most have no maintained trails or other facilities. |
